The Winning Cookies from Lancaster

If you have attended Golden Glow conventions is the past, you know about the excitement (and deliciousness!) generated by the annual Christmas Cookie Contest.

Each year, members travel to the Convention with their treasured family recipes and one dozen of their show-stopping treats to be judged in one of six categories:

      • Rolled & Cut-out
      • Molded or Pressed
      • Bar
      • Refrigerator
      • Drop
      • Candy (all types)

Additionally, there is always a regional category featuring a recipe that is unique to the city where the Convention takes place. In 2019, the Regional Choice category was the Pennsylvania Dutch Sand Tart.

The team of judges gathers around the table to assess the competition.

A team of Golden Glow members met on Thursday at the Lancaster Convention to judge this year’s contestants. Criteria included appearance, freshness, texture/mouth feel, and overall taste.

Two members judged each category, and for each category, a first- and second-place cookie was chosen.

Laurie Probst makes an argument in support of her favorite.

The coordinator of the Christmas Cookie Contest, Doreen Tango Hampton, added a new surprise this year! All of the first place winners were then judged against each other and a GRAND PRIZE was awarded!

We are pleased to share this behind-the-scenes peek at  the contest, and to announce all of the winners.
